About the Register of Deeds office:
In September 1998 the Abstract Listing Office was merged
with the Register of Deeds Office. The merger reduced
expenses by eliminating one full time position and combined
two systems tracking land into a single state of the art
system. In 2003 we recorded 120,146 real estate documents,
a record setting year for Brown County. A new document
management system called I-Doc XF was installed in August
2003 which allows real estate information and images to be
searched over the Internet immediately following receipt.
For more information on searching our land records on the
Internet visit our web page at
www.co.brown.wi.us/rod. In 2003 another record was set
when we recorded our two-millionth document. This
milestone is especially significant considering it took 163
years to record the first million and just 20 years to
record the second million. Our permanent staff has not
increased since the 1970’s; therefore we had to cut back on
services for obtaining real estate services. Calls are
answered between 1 and 4 p.m. daily by calling 920-448-4471. |

About Brown County:
Brown County has been called the birthplace of Wisconsin.
Within its boundaries the first white man set foot in the
state when Jean Nicolet stepped ashore at Red Banks in 1634.
The mouth of the Fox River nourished the first religious
missions and fur trading posts, and there the first
permanent white settlement began with the arrival of Charles
De Langlade and his family about 1765. With a population of
over 230,000 residents Brown County is the fourth largest
county in Wisconsin. The county seat is the City of
Green Bay, Wisconsin’s third largest city and home to the
world famous Green Bay Packers.
Brown County which continues to grow rapidly, is comprised
of two cities (Green Bay and De Pere), nine villages and 13
townships, which have a combined population of approximately
223,000 people. Brown County encompasses 525 square
miles and has over 93,500 tax parcels.
