Dane County is one of the larger counties
geographically with 1,202.2 square miles and the second largest
county in population with over 430,000 residents. The City of
Madison is the county seat as well as the state capital. The
University of Wisconsin-Madison and Madison Area Technical College
make us a center of education and research, and attract technology
firms and an international population to the county. Badger
Sports and the Badger Marching Band are famous throughout the
nation. Dane County provides popular tourist attractions such
as the beautiful State Capital, several museums, the new Overture
Center, the nation’s largest Farmer’s Market, the chain of Four
Lakes and Yahara River Valley, ethnic cultural experiences,
excellent state and county parks, and local festivals in many of the
62 municipalities in the county. The dairy and other farming
industries have a long tradition and the World Dairy Expo attracts
visitors from around the globe.
