About Loralee: Loralee Lasley is a lifelong resident of Oconto County, with over half that life spent working in the Register of Deeds Office. She was hired as a clerk/typist in 1976, and served as deputy register of deeds from 1979 until her appointment to the register’s position by Governor Tommy Thompson in 1994. As register of deeds, she enjoys working with the historical records in the office, as well as the challenge of introducing new technology.

About the Register of Deeds office The Oconto County Register of Deeds Office has two full time and two part time employees, in addition to the register of deeds. Annette Behringer has worked in the office since 1984, and is currently serving as deputy register of deeds. She is a capable and dedicated employee whose sense of humor makes her a favorite with abstracters. Shirley Steier joined the staff in 1990, as receptionist and vital records clerk. The “copy requests” basket on Shirley’s desk is seldom empty, but between phone calls and counter service she climbs the ladder to retrieve books without complaint. Debbie Metzler and Laurie Wusterbarth are part time employees who share indexing and scanning duties, as well as filling in wherever needed. Debbie began as microfilm operator in 1994, and made the transition to scanning technician when an imaging system was installed in 2001. Her care and attention to detail are a perfect fit for the job. The newest employee, Laurie, is a keyboard whiz and a welcome addition to the staff during the record-breaking year of 2003. Whenever the seemingly endless stream of recordings started to pile up, everyone looked forward to a “Laurie day” to get caught up! Oconto County is lucky to have such a talented and hardworking group in the Register of Deeds Office.
