About the Register of Deeds office:
Real estate records are maintained in a
grantor/grantee indexing system. The index begins in 1839, with
entries being made into a computer database since 1976. A tract
index system is currently being established that will also allow
searching by legal descriptions. Scanning of real estate records
began in May of 2000. Vital Statistics records are also
maintained. These include birth, death and marriage records for
events that occurred in Walworth County. Birth records begin in
1856, death records in 1873, and marriage records in 1839.
The office consists of five full-time employees and one
half-time employee in addition to the register of deeds. The year
2003 proved to be another record-setting year with a total of over
51,100 documents processed, which was made possible by the
efficient and hard-working staff. |
