| On June 12, 2001,
the Wisconsin Legislature passed Senate Bill 9, which is
Revised Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code. The bill
was signed on Friday, June 22, 2001 by Governor McCallum and
will become law effective July 1, 2001.
As of July 1, 2001, all states will have central filing
offices. Ours will be the Department of Financial
Institutions, Division of Corporate and Consumer Services.
Effective July
1, 2001, ALL non-realty related
filings are to be filed with:
Department of Financial Institutions
Uniform Commercial Code Section

Realty-related (or fixture) filings are to be filed
at the local register of deeds office only.
The fees for realty-related filings are set according
to 59.43(e) and are follows: $11.00 for the first page, $2
for each additional page. An original financing statement,
amendment (which includes continuations, partial releases,
or terminations) are considered separate instruments.
The UCC database will continue be available through the
computer work-stations in the public access area of our
